The medieval town developped from tenth century on around the Benedictine abbey which was a focal point in the Middle Ages. You can explore the remains of the monastery, the romanesque houses, the churches Notre-Dame and St Marcel. There are many historical churches in the area.Cluny is also a convenient stopping place along the wine road. It is close to Taizé, the famous oecumenical centre. In 1822, the decision was taken to set up a national stud farme in the buildings which were extended.

Mittelalterliche Stadt, vom 10.Jh. an rings um das Benediktiner Kloster erbaut, Hochburg des Mittelalters. Zu entdecken : Uberreste des Klosters, romanische Haüser, Frauen-und Marcel Kirche. Die Gegend ist reich an unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Kirchen ; außerdem befindet sich in der Nähe die ökumenische Ortschaft Taizé, die an der WeinstraBe einen Rast bietet.
